We don’t discuss the topic any further as Emma and Liv emerge from the restrooms and my eyes instantly connect with hers.

“Chill Jake, you can’t keep her wrapped up in cotton wool or stuck by your side forever. Nothings gonna happen to her.” Nate puts his hand on my shoulder obviously feeling the worry, that comes off me in waves.

“I still dream about that night Bro.” I flick my eyes over to meet his and he nods back at me, the look on his face telling me that he remembers the anguish of that night too. “I’ll kill any fucker that so much as breathes on her again, so don’t tell me to chill because it’s not possible.”

He squeezes my shoulder in acknowledgment and looks out over the dance floor to where our girls are already getting plenty of attention.
